Our Challenge

Nami Sushi came to Fat Media as a brand new, start-up enterprise. Their business was a brand new sushi restaurant in the busy city centre of Lancaster – a brand new concept for the city, but one that needed to stand out in the competitive restaurant market place.

The team behind Nami Sushi had a strong vision for their brand, but appointed Fat Media to turn it into a reality. We were appointed to create not only their visual brand identity, but also their signage, menu designs and custom wall art for their interior decoration.

The Brand

The Japanese word Nami means ‘wave’, which provided the initial inspiration for creating their logo. The iconic ‘The Great Wave’ artwork by Japanese artist Hokusai provided some ideas for the colour scheme, as did the vibrant colours of popular sushi ingredients such as nori. The circular element meanwhile, is an abstract idea taken from a stain left by a Japanese teacup.

Developing the Concepts

From the initial colour scheme and logo we have gone on to develop the look and feel of the Nami Sushi Restaurant itself, including exterior and interior decoration. The circular branding device features on all printed materials such as menus, wine lists and wall art, while the colour scheme even extends to the colour-coded menu options on the bar menu!
