Selecting the right digital marketing strategy can often feel like hitting a moving target: impossible. But it’s no longer optional for brands who are serious about moving their business forward.
In an industry that is ever-changing and filled with exciting new developments, it’s more important than ever to be in the loop. Last year alone, we saw the huge increase of internet mobile usage, the coming of an age of video advertising, and the need for responsive website designs to aid conversions - all setting the standard for 2015.
Mobile friendly
Last year Search Engine Land reported a 92% rise in mobile phone use at work, shattering all previous doubt about the power of mobile devices. With on-the-go searching becoming the preferred choice for users, there’s real value in mobile friendly platforms. This alternative to the “big screen” allows for optimal experience in a compact format. AFL figures show that over 46% of marketers will be switching to mobile based marketing this year, up from 23% last year. This means that mobile apps and advertising on these devices are real areas of interest for your business.
Importance of Content Marketing
With the continued update of Google’s search algorithms, it’s more obvious than ever that the way to your search engines heart is quality content. Some marketers still have their heads firmly in the sand with a neglect of content marketing. But those brands (big & small) and media industries looking to progress, have devoted a large budget to developing content. Some are even more concerned about the quality of content than the design of the site.
Social media
According to Hootsuite, one quarter of the world’s population has at least one social media account. This means that 1,730,000,000 people are posting, tweeting, sharing, linking and instagramming. More than ever, brands need to test new ideas by building their social media strategy and keeping it fluid. Before setting to work on social media marketing, answer these questions:
- What are you offering to those who follow you?
- Why should they follow you?
- What will you consistently provide them?
Every opportunity you have to increase your visibility as a brand is valuable. Your social media channel is just a new platform for your brand’s voice and content. This is important because it instantly makes you more accessible and for new customers, and makes you familiar and recognisable for existing ones. While a Twitter user may stumble across your company for the first time on their newsfeed, existing customers might become better acquainted with your brand after seeing it on multiple platforms.
There’s a lot to take in here. The world of digital marketing is constantly evolving, meaning your business cannot stand still. This shouldn’t scare you though, it should excite you. If you follow the right path to digital marketing success, 2015 could be your year.
