In the build-up to Christmas last year around 24% of online UK customers used their mobiles or tablets to visit a retail website. The ever increasing popularity of smartphone and tablet technology suggests that this figure will make a significant rise again in the run up to Christmas 2013.
An increasing trend over the last few years has been the popularity in mobile-commerce, or mCommerce, with people choosing their smartphones and tablets over desktop computers to do their online shopping.
On average, mobiles account towards 31% of all site traffic in the UK and has shown massive growth over the last few years. From 2010 to 2011 mobile traffic increased by 254% and around 300% again between 2011 and 2012. Understanding the behaviours of mobile users has become ever more important.
The statistics don’t slow down there either. It has been predicted that mobile will account for 11.5% of online sales in the UK for 2013 – an increase on last year on 10.2%.
Countless surveys and polls with UK online shoppers have come back with overwhelmingly high figures in favour of mobile commerce. 20% of mobile owners said that ads have persuaded their online shopping purchases.
