Fat Media has seen one of its latest projects – designing Morecambe FC’s new club badge - make sporting headlines worldwide.
The design team - guided by lifelong Morecambe fans from Fat Media, MD Mike Gibson and senior consultant Glen Cooper - worked to the club board’s general specifications to deliver a range of design options.
In the end the Morecambe FC chairman, Peter McGuigan and his board opted for a simple but striking modern version of the Shrimp logo the club had used in the 1960s and again in the 1980s.
A large version of the badge will form the centrepiece of the branding at Morecambe’s new £12 million Globe Arena – the club’s home stadium from the start of the 2010/11 season.
It will also be on team shirts, fans’ merchandise and all the club’s corporate branding, including a new brochure Fat Media has created for the club to promote the Globe Arena’s hospitality, function and conferencing facilities.
The new badge has certainly sparked debate among Morecambe fans – with football fans across the country and worldwide also having their say.
Glen said: “It’s such a striking departure from the current badge that it was bound to raise a few eyebrows.
“As fans ourselves it’s been a hugely rewarding process and it will be a real thrill to see the design that we produced displayed proudly on the side of the new stadium, on shirts, flags and car-stickers for years to come.”
