Our Challenge

The Daffodil Hotel and Spa is a stunning four star hotel in the Lakeland village of Grasmere. We originally designed their website back in 2014, but in 2016, we all agreed that a refreshed design would improve engagement with the site, and the conversion rate.

In the competitive marketplace of Lake District hotels, we knew we had to create something special to really make the Daffodil stand out. Added to this, was the need to encourage direct bookings made through the Daffodil site, rather than via online travel agents.

After our first design won an Internet Advertising Award, we had set a pretty high benchmark for ourselves!

Images with impact

With the benefit of such a stunning lakeside location, along with the high standard of decoration inside the hotel, we made sure the website design incorporated as much photography as possible. An aerial photograph was chosen for the main homepage image, due to its ability to show the lake, architecture of The Daffodil and the surrounding fells all in one shot.

Developing the Concepts

To add further interest to the photography, we have used parallax scroll animations extensively. This means the images transition as you scroll, landing in their final position as you reach them. The result is an interesting and engaging page which encourages the user to scroll on and discover more.

Responsive, thoughtful interface design

To make booking a stay as simple as possible, we implemented a site-wide sticky header. This allows visitors to enter their dates and check availability in just one click, from any page on the site. A link to the contact page is also housed in this header, so guests can easily ask a question if needed.

Mobile design

This header is also present on the mobile site, indeed even features such as the animated transitions are mobile-friendly too, so mobile visitors really do get the same experience as desktop guests. This is so vital as consumers regularly revisit a site on different devices.

In the first 6 months after launch, direct bookings made on The Daffodil's site increased by 38% year on year

Streamlined Navigation

We created a totally new menu layout for The Daffodil, to improve the user journey and make finding the right information much easier and quicker. This improvement particularly benefitted the site on mobile and tablet, where previously navigation had been quite difficult.

Engaging Emails

Direct bookings are a focus for any hotel, and so our email marketing experts work with the Daffodil team to design and send tactical email campaigns. We’re so proud of the results we achieve with these – a recent campaign generated almost £5,000 of revenue! This lead to it being named Campaign of the Year 2017 by email service provider Adestra.
